Community service punishment scheme

Community service as an alternative to imprisonment is one that postulates that minor, petty or non – serious offenders should not be imprisoned except in deserving cases as imprisonment may turn them into potentially dangerous citizens while those who commit serious or violent offences should still be imprisoned for the protection of society. The scheme had produced over 2000 ex-offenders who have undergone the scheme while 1009 offenders were evaluated and counseled.  The scheme had been adopted by the Kwara State justice system while other States like Lagos, Osun,Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers and Kaduna still takes cue from this beautiful model of noncustodial sentencing.
