JDPC IBADAN FACILITATES CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT TRAINING FOR COMMUNITY PARALEGALS

To continue enhancing access to justice at the Grassroots, we organized a 1-day capacity Development training for our community paralegals on land, gender and sexual-based violence, Access, custody and maintenance of children.

In attendance, is Mr Isa Busari Esq from the Task Force Unit, Real Properties Protection Agency, Bureau of Physical Planning, who spoke on the topic “Promoting land acquisition rights by community paralegals in Oyo State”

He enlightened the participants on land law, land grabbing and lawful ways to ensure the rightful possession of land.

Also, Mr. Olamide Idowu from the Oyo state sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Team educated the participants on practical steps in handling cases of gender and sexual-based violence.

Mr Idowu noted that the victim's safety and protection should be prioritised in any case of sexual or gender-based violence. He also urged the paralegals to report.

The Deputy Chief Registrar Customary Court of Appeal, Iyaganku Ibadan Mrs. Toyin Omotosho also presented a paper on Access, Custody and Maintenance of Children: What the law states. Mrs Omotosho enlightened the participants on custody under the tripartite legal system that we operate in Nigeria i.e. Customary Law, Islamic Law and Statutory Law.

The session also educates the paralegals on types of custody and maintenance
